The St. Antonino Church, situated in the current Piazza Liberta, has a medieval foundation. In fact, it dates back to the year 1300, but you should know that it was destroyed along with the monastery complex it was built in, during conflicts between the nobles of the Latin party and the nobles of the Catalan party – conflicts that ravaged Sicily far and wide during that period.

The former Mother Church of our town, Salemi, located in the highest part of the village, is a stop that cannot be missed.
According to tradition, the Mother Church was supposed to be built on the site of a previously existing Arab mosque, which, in turn, included an ancient temple dedicated to Venus. More information: https://travelsalemi.com/ex-chiesa-madre-di-salemi/

A respectable tour of Salemi includes a visit to the "Madris," the former mother church of the village, now used as a cultural space, an "open-air theater." You should book a visit, of course, for a more thorough exploration of the present Mother Church. Looking at the main external facade, you can admire its elegance
Our city, which is also known as the “First Capital of Italy” thanks to Giuseppe Garibaldi, continues to develop cultural projects and fight depopulation through the 1 Euro house program. We are confident that Salemi will become a good new home for everyone who wants to make this piece of Italy happier and better. Official website of urban tourism in English:Visit travelsalemi.com
